CPI Index
Components of the CPI Fertilizer Index
CPI Fertilizer Index compares the ratio of current corn price bids to the price of a standard fertilizer prescription. The chart compares current prices to historical ratios for comparison and may indicate favorable market conditions for timing purchases of fertilizer inputs and sales of grain to lock in the cost of those inputs.
The fertilizer price used is that of current contract offerings for a standard prescription of liquid and dry fertilizers applied to an acre of corn.
The corn price used is the posted corn bid for Hastings, NE. for November 2011 (November 2012 for 2012 crop year comparisons)
